Worship and Services

Worship at St George’s is reverent, beautiful, and rooted in the ancient Anglican tradition. We are High Church (Anglo-Catholic) parish, which means our services are enriched with ceremonial, incense, vestments, and the full dignity of the Church’s liturgy. In every service, our aim is to “worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness”, offering our very best in prayer and praise.

We follow the Church of Ireland’s liturgical calendar and lectionary, celebrating the Eucharist as the central act of worship. Visitors will find our worship

familiar yet transcendent – with Scripture and sermon, Holy Communion open to all baptised Christians, and music that lifts the soul. The atmosphere of worship is warm and prayerful, inviting each person to encounter the presence of God. Below is our regular schedule of services (please check our website or weekly bulletin for any updates or additional services):

Sundays – 8:30 am: Holy Communion (a quiet, said service using traditional language).

10:30 am: Choral Eucharist (Parish Sung Eucharist with choir, sermon, and full ceremonial).

5:00 pm: Choral Evensong (on most Sundays, as announced; a reflective evening service of psalms and canticles led by our choirs).

Weekday Worship. Thursdays: 1:00 pm Holy Eucharist (a brief said Communion service, often including our Our Lady of Walsingham devotions on the first Thursday, providing a midday oasis for city workers and shoppers). Weekdays: The church is generally open daily for private prayer and occasionally offers Morning or Evening Prayer – please see our noticeboard for times.

Holy Days and Festivals – St George’s observes all major Feast Days with solemn liturgies. On Saints’ days and special occasions, we hold additional Eucharists or Evensongs. We continue beloved traditions such as the Christmas Midnight Mass (St George’s was notably the first church in Ireland to hold a Midnight Eucharist on Christmas Eve ), a Service of Lessons and Carols in Advent, and the Three Hours Devotion on Good Friday (three hours of prayer and reflection from 12 noon to 3 pm, another practice first introduced in Ireland here at St George’s ). During Holy Week and Easter, we offer a full journey of liturgies, from Palm Sunday through Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, the Easter Vigil, and Easter Day celebrations. Every service at St George’s – whether a simple weekday Mass or a grand Easter festival – is conducted with deep devotion and according to the ancient patterns of Anglican worship.

In all our services, preaching and the sacraments are at the core. The Holy Eucharist

(Holy Communion) is celebrated at least twice every Sunday, as we believe in the importance of gathering around the Lord’s Table regularly. Choral Evensong

(from the 1662 Book of Common Prayer and Irish Prayer Book) is offered to glorify God through prayer and music, and many have found it to be a time of peace and contemplation to close the Lord’s Day. Our clergy are also available for the occasional offices –

baptisms, weddings, and funerals – by arrangement, serving not only our congregation but the wider community who may seek the ministry of the Church for life’s milestones. We uphold the sacramental life of the Church with joy: “Seven whole days, not one in seven, I will praise Thee”

as the old hymn goes. We invite you to join us at any of our services and experience the rhythm of worship at St George’s, where ancient liturgy comes alive, and God’s presence is truly felt.
